BCIS I Course Project - Looking to the Future
End of Chapter 3 - Word Processing
- Prepare a current resume.
Select a career you hope to pursue by researching the salary, job requirements, and job growth in a particular field. If the position requires further education or training, research the colleges or training schools’ offering such programs and the cost of tuition. Write down all the information such as job title, job requirements, salary, predicted job growth, name and address of the college or training academy, the field of study, and tuition along with all of the web addresses. A search of grants and scholarships requirements assists in helping your dreams come true. Type up all of the information in outline form and save it in a file named My Future Dreams.
Update the resume with the college or training academy information.
End of Chapter 7 – Spreadsheets
Prepare a budget based on your future earnings from the career search deducting for actual payroll taxes, health insurance and living expenses. Ask yourself questions like are you going to live at home, in an apartment or own a home. Plan for car insurance, home owner insurance, real estate taxes, electric, gas, telephone, water and garbage pickup. Add in fuel and repairs for your vehicle along with any monthly car payment. Does the future include a spouse or children? If so, be sure to add in the increased expense so you anticipate future events like periods of illness or unemployment. Finally, prepare a grocery list and go shopping writing down all the prices. The teacher assists in calculating the actual payroll taxes using IRS information; however, the rest of the information remains the responsibility of the student. All information needs to be in draft form by the end of Chapter 7 for preparing the budget and then charting the information in Excel. Remember many of these life events come in stages, so you may want to prepare more than one budget.
End of Chapter 12 – PowerPoint
Prepare a presentation for the class discussing your future by integrating your resume, the outline prepared in Step 1, and the budgets and charts from Step 2 into the presentation. Before preparing the summary slide, reflect on what you learned, how this exercise influences your future, and any different decisions made because of this exercise.
