A memorandum is commonly referred to as a memo or interoffice correspondence in the business world. It includes the headings of DATE, TO, FROM and SUBJECT, which are usually capitalized. The typist tabs over and aligns each corresponding piece of information for each line in the heading as shown above.
A single blank line or double space (DS) separates each heading item. Two blank lines or quadruple space (QS) separates the last line of the heading from the first paragraph of the memo. Between the heading and the body of the memo is the only time the line spacing changes.
Each paragraph in the body of the memo is separated by one blank line or double space (DS). After the last paragraph of the memo leave one blank line and type the typist's initials. In other words, the xx is replaced with your first and last name initials. These initials are always lower case or small letters - never capitalized.
After the typist initial's, leave one blank line and type the word Attachment if you are sending more documentation with the memo.
